Staff Movie Review: Crimson Peak

By Hillary Morgan | Digital Media Intern I went into Crimson Peak expecting jump-scares and ghosts galore. However, what I got was a slow-burning, tension-filled, period thriller. Set in the gothic period, Crimson Peak seemingly follows the formula of classic novels such as Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre, but with much darker twists and turns. What begins as a gothic romance becomes a gothic horror as the film progresses. Our heroine, Edith (Mia Wasikowska), is swept away by the dashing...

Meeting digital audiences where they are

‘If you build it, they will come’ can no longer be the standard for media companies By Bethany Chambers | Digital Operations Manager In the world of digital media, there is no single Field of Dreams. Shoeless Joe wouldn’t make his appearance in one cornfield now; he’d need one for each day of the week—at least. Digital media has gone through an incredible evolution in the past decade (to put it mildly), but one thing has not changed: We’re still...

Staff Movie Review: Everest

Everest Will Give You the Chills By Allison Barwacz | Digital Media Content Producer I had a vague idea of what Everest was about when I walked into the theater: People climb the mountain, a storm comes and people live… or die. I was right. However, the film exceeded my expectations. Everest takes you on an 8-9-week journey of two groups of people preparing to climb 29,000 ft. up Mount Everest. The journey required a tremendous deal of training and...

Scary movies for the Halloween season

By Will Nepper | PMP magazine, Senior Editor I always try to cram as many horror movies in during the month of October as possible, so I’m here to help you do the same by providing you with reviews of some of the best I’ve recently seen. Goodnight, Mommy [R] (in limited theatrical release) – Part horror, part Hitchcockian thriller, all chills. Nine-year-old twin boys are unsettled when their mother returns home from reconstructive surgery wrapped in face-obscuring bandages. She...

Staff App Review: Waze

By Michelle Mitchell One of my favorite apps is Waze. Waze is a community-based traffic and navigation app. Drivers in your area share real-time traffic and road info, saving everyone time and gas money on their daily commute.  I use the app often…saves me from potentially sitting in traffic…or even from potentially getting a ticket as the app, not only shows you when there is slow traffic or an accident, but also where police are sitting!
