Golfdom Announces Multiple Promotions and New Staff Additions

Golfdom StaffCleveland, OH — December 8, 2017 — Golfdom, a North Coast Media (NCM) brand serving the golf course maintenance industry, is pleased to announce the promotions of Craig MacGregor to Publisher, Seth Jones to Associate Publisher, Chloe Scoular to Account Manager, and the addition of Dan Hannan to Eastern Regional Sales Manager. Jake Goodman, who was recently promoted to Western Regional Sales Manager, remains in that role.

These moves were made necessary thanks to the fast growth over the past five years of Golfdom’s print and digital products and the overwhelming success of its hosted event, the Golfdom Summit, held last week at the Reunion Resort outside of Orlando, Fla.

“We are currently celebrating the Golfdom brand’s 90-year history,” said Kevin Stoltman, President and CEO of North Coast Media. “In addition to celebrating the brand, it is time to celebrate and announce some well-deserved promotions and additions to the Golfdom staff. We are gearing up for the best years yet for Golfdom readers and marketing partners.”

Craig MacGregor joined Golfdom and sister publication Landscape Management (LM) in January 2012. He was promoted to Associate Publisher of both in 2015 and continued to excel in growing his clients’ businesses through strong partnerships and new innovations, including NCM’s first Facebook Live event at this year’s GIE+EXPO. Craig has played an integral role in the record growth the past five years of the LM and Golfdom brands. In addition to his new Publisher role with Golfdom, he will remain Associate Publisher of LM.

Seth Jones joined Golfdom as Editor-in-Chief in December 2010 after working as an editor on Golf Course Management magazine for 12 years. In his seven years with Golfdom, his editorial vision has helped Golfdom lead the industry in readership and awards. In 2015 the Turf & Ornamental Communicators Association (TOCA) named Seth best columnist in the industry; In 2016 the magazine’s 16 TOCA awards were as many as all their competitors combined. Already instrumental in the success of the Golfdom Summit and collaborating with the Golfdom sales team on industry partner marketing initiatives, Seth will fit into the role of Associate Publisher seamlessly. He also will remain Golfdom’s Editor-in-Chief.

Dan Hannan joins the company with more than 20 years of sales and marketing experience. He’ll utilize his experience to manage the Eastern Region for both the Golfdom and LM brands. Dan will help his customers develop marketing and branding solutions to strengthen their positions in the golf course maintenance and landscaping and lawn care industries.

Chloe Scoular, NCM’s Buyers Guide Account Manager since 2014, has excelled in customer relations and growing classified and buyers guide products. In her new role as Account Manager, she will dedicate her efforts to introducing Golfdom and LM marketing opportunities to new partners.

“The Golfdom sales team is energized and ready to take Golfdom to the next level,” added Bill Roddy, Group Publisher of Golfdom and LM. “We are already busy brainstorming new ideas to help our customers grow. It’s a very exciting time for both the Golfdom and Landscape Management brands.”

Golfdom editor-in-chief’s article picked up by Pitchcare.com

Seth JonesAccumulating more than 15 years of experience in the golf and turf industries, Athletic Turf and Golfdom editor-in-chief Seth Jones makes it one of his priorities to travel the world and seek great stories.

On June 5, 2017, Pitchcare, the premier organization for the sports and amenity turf industries in the U.K. with 50,000 members, selected Jones’ 2017 U.S. Open Preview article to be featured on the homepage of their website, Pitchare.com.

“There is always interest in how greenkeepers go about their work in other countries,” says Peter Britton, Director of Advertising and Production at Picthcare.com. “As you may know, we work closely with Ohio State University to promote the work that Mike O’Keeffe and his team do in placing U.K. interns into the States.”

Britton selected the article because it was of particular interest to U.K. greenkeepers.

“Whilst the grass species and climatic challenges may be different, the efforts of the greenkeeping staff are to be promoted at every opportunity, wherever they are in the world,” Britton says.

Attesting to his expertise in the golf and turf industries, Jones was voted best columnist of 2014 by the Turf & Ornamental Communicators Association.

downloadJones values having strong connections with other people working in the same industry, near or far.

“I meet with Peter whenever I’m over at the BIGGA Turf Management Exhibition in England. Peter is nice enough to keep me on the subscription list so I can stay up-to-date on what he and his team is reporting on across the pond,” says Jones. “I admire the work they do. I’m happy to share Golfdom content with PitchCare—groundskeepers across the world share the same passions; they’re all in it together.”

The category recognizes those departmental directors who can show proof of achievement in three distinct areas of work. Palmieri’s application focused on her leadership in the redesign and rebranding of Landscape Management (LM), her advancement of new media techniques and her role in establishing editorial standards for the company as a whole.

The annual Top Women list is composed of the most influential women in media. Honorees are chosen for their demonstrated ability to “move their teams, brands, and companies forward.” Palmieri is NCM’s second consecutive winner of a Top Women award.

Palmieri, along with winners from Condé Nast, Twitter, Grist and Harvard Business Review, will be honored during an awards luncheon Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Edison Ballroom in Times Square in New York City.

Palmieri, who serves a dual role as NCM’s editorial director and editor-in-chief of LM, is known as a leader and mentor who empowers those around her. Her application to the Folio board included personal statements from seven members of the LM team.

“All of us at NCM, and particularly her LM teammates, are extremely proud of Marisa. She’s a positive and nurturing leader who’s committed to her craft and her team. Marisa’s talent, creativity and integrity shine through in everything she does,” says Bill Roddy, group publisher of Landscape Management and Golfdom. She exudes ‘Director-Level Doer’ in so many ways, making her the ideal recipient of this well-deserved honor.”

Palmieri has worked in every editorial role in her 10 years in green industry publishing. She serves on NCM’s content marketing committee and trains interns and new hires to become better editors. Her work on LM’s redesign in 2014 earned the brand 22 regional and national awards.

Palmieri has a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and is mom to Sadie and Paige, and wife of Mike Shugrue, a multiple-times-deployed member of the Ohio Army National Guard.

Athletic Turf editor-in-chief interviewed by Chicago Tribune

Seth JonesWhile it may take a few dozen professional athletes to win a baseball game, it takes the hard work of close to a hundred unseen turf specialists to keep a field in playing condition. Seth Jones, editor-in-chief of Athletic Turf and Golfdom, knows all about these groundskeepers and the maintenance required of them.

Chicago Tribune shared Jones’ expertise in an article about Wrigley Field’s groundskeepers published on Oct. 4, 2016. The Chicago area newspaper is published by tronc Inc. and has about 455,000 subscribers to its weekday paper.

Jones, who was voted best columnist of 2014 by the Turf & Ornamental Communicators Association, has 15 years of experience in the golf and turf industries.

“The guys want to be behind the scenes,” said [Jones of groundskeepers]. “Very rarely do people celebrate these guys, even though they appreciate their handiwork every time they go into the ballpark.”

The article, which noted that Athletic Turf delivers sports turf news to a mailing list of 15,000, also featured the work of Justin Spillman, head groundskeeper at Wrigley Field. Spillman has 20 years of groundskeeping experience in minor and major league ballparks.

“People get so jealous,” Jones said. “He’s a minor celebrity in the baseball field himself because he’s been all over the place.”

Jones gained insights from Spillman about maintaining Wrigley Field grounds after concerts in an Athletic Turf interview published May 20, 2016.
